Research on the recycle of raw materials post-production in the garment and footwear industry

Abstract

The garment and footwear industry are one of the key industries in Vietnam. According to the Journal of Industry and Trade in 2018, the exportation of the leather and footwear industry reached $19.5 billion US dollar and the apparel reached $36 billion US dollar. This data is perfectly exemplified for the strong potential of the two industries in the future. However, the treatment of Waste Materials (NLT) after production has not been given adequate attention, which causes significant waste and impacts on the environment and long-term development of the two industries. Therefore, the results of "Research on the possibility of recycling the post-production materials of the Garment and Footwear industry" will bring in potential economic and environmental benefits.

The main focus of the research is to find solutions to reuse the waste material as decorative element(s) for children's fashion, aiming for the best efficient way of using all materials (NPL) for Industrial Sewing. The content of this study includes: Identifying the sources of generating waste materials; assessing the characteristics as well as the possibility of recycling those materials as decorative elements in fashion; proposing different methods corresponding to different types of waste materials. The results of this study can be applied to production, as a reference and supplement to recycling methods for the garment and footwear industries.
