The press-screw shaft of ricehusk briquette machine has short life time due to the high friction between the screw shaft's front part and the ricehusk in processing of briquette extruding. Researching on the type of wear and heat-resistant material with reasonable price to improve the machining and life time of press-screw shaft is a necessary issue. This article presents the research result about applicability of steel SKD61 in machining thepress-screw shaft. A construction of double-material screw shaft with the front part made from SKD61 steel and the rear made from C45 steel, together with a manufacturing process plan and a welding procedure have been suggested. Experimented results with three press-screw shafts showed that the new press-screw shafts with front part of SKD61 steel have four times longer life than that of conventional press-screw shaft of C45 steel and thus higher economic efficiency.
