It is important to consider the performances of lightweight and stiffness when designing a bus frame. Base on the FEM static analysis conduct design optimization for bus structure. Orthogonal design method was used to set the experimental scheme on the structure of bus body with different thicknesses of steel tube, simultaneously a series of simulation study on bus structure static analysis was conducted. Based on the regression analysis of the simulation results, the regression functions were established by SPSS software, the design variables were optimized by MATLAB software. The results showed that, the stress and deformation of struc- ture satisfy the conditions required lightweight and stiffness, the total weight of optimized bus structures was decreased by 11.4% and realized the lightweight design of bus body
