Transformer is important element in electric power system, transformer inrush currents during random energization are of high magnitudes, especailly saturation and ferroresonance and have undesirable effects on power systems, including protective relay misoperation, reduction of power quality. This paper investigates inrush currents through computer simulation, and the results obtained by wavelets technique, fast fourier transforms identifying in direct-current and second-harmonic components. A spectrum-based analysis was carried out and an algorithm is proposed in order to discriminate inrush currents from fault currents, avoiding protective relay misoperations.
