The goal of the EMVITET project is to support lecturers in creating a student-centered and competence-based learning environment in the direction of Education 4.0, whereby assessment is considered a way of learning. This article explains the importance of “assessment as learning” and illustrates how to implement this concept through five cases from project partner colleges and universities, where peer assessment was implemented in class sizes with a maximum of 70 students. All case descriptions follow the same structure: First, contextual information and rationale of peer assessment are given. It is followed by a description of how peer assessments were organized. Finally, the observable impact was also mentioned with available data. Through the analysis of typical cases, the authors offered key principles for implementing peer assessment successfully: (1) Clarify the purposes and expectation of peer assessment; (2) Pay enough time and attention to the design of the evaluation criteria; (3) Anonymize peer assessment so that students feel comfortable evaluating each other; (4) Ensure multiple peer assessors to reach a higher reliability and validity - ensure each student is assessed by at least two or three fellow students. More importantly, the article also suggests: the lecturer gives students more responsibility and control, and the degree of the giving responsibility and control shall match the learning goals and level of students’ prior knowledge and their learning ability. With the wonderful impacts of peer assessment, most students expect the method to be applied widely and it is highly recommended to be continued in the near future.

Hoai Nam Ho, Ho Chi Minh City Industry and Trade College, Vietnam

Ho Hoai Nam. (M '79) received the B.E. degree in electrical-electronic engineering from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, Vietnam in 2001 and the M.S. degree in mechatronics form Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand, in 2008. He got the Ph.D. degree in civil engineering at Sejong University, Seoul, Korea in 2014.

From 2009 to 2014, he was a Research Assistant at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Seoul, Korea. His research interest includes the development of digital image processing and smart structures (hohoainam@hitu.edu.vn).

Thi Le Nguyen, Ho Chi Minh City Industry and Trade College, Vietnam

Nguyen Thi Le. (F '74) is a lecturer of physics and soft skills at Ho Chi Minh City Industry and Trade College. She received B. S. degree in Physics from Hanoi National University of Education in 1995, and M. S. degree in Methods of Teaching Physics from Ho Chi Minh City University of Education in 2005. Minh Son Nguyen , Lac Hong University (LHU), Vietnam

Nguyen Minh Son was born in 1988. In 2008, he received his diploma in Industry 3/7 specializing in industrial electricity from Dong Nai Technician School. In 2011, he obtained his engineering degree in information technology from Lac Hong University. Since 2011, he has been a lecturer at the Faculty of Information Technology, Lac Hong University, majoring in computer engineering. He received his Master’s degree in information technology from Lac Hong University in 2016. Thi Huong Phan, Lac Hong University (LHU), Vietnam

Phan Thi Huong received her diploma in Industry 3/7 specializing in information technology from Dong Nai Technician School in 2005. She received her B.S. degree from Lac Hong University, Vietnam, in 2011 and her M.S. degree from the same university in 2015. Since 2011, she has been a lecturer at the Faculty of Information Technology, Lac Hong University, majoring in computer engineering. Ngoc Hoa Pham , College of Technology II, Vietnam (HVCT)

Pham Ngoc Hoa. (F '81) is a lecturer at College of Technology II. She has nearly 20 years of experience in teaching Design Graphics on Computer. She received the B.S degree in Informatics Pedagogy from Ho Chi Minh City University of Education in 2008, and the M.S degree in Educational Management from the Hanoi Institute of Education Quality Assurance in 2012. Her fields of interest are digital pedagogy, quality assurance and graphic design.

Thi Nga Vo, HCMC University of Technology and Education, Vietnam

Dr. Vo-Thi Nga received PhD. degree at Vietnam National University HCMC, VNUHCM-University of Science. She has been working for Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education as a lecturer of General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Practice of Organic Chemistry since 2001. Her fields of interest are investigation of chemical constituents of the herb, including extraction, isolation and elucidation of natural product structures; and in-vitro and in-vivo biological activity assay of natural products.
