The quasi-switched boost inverter (qSBI) has the advantage over the quasi-Z-source inverter (qZSI) in reducing one capacitor and one inductor. The qSBI is not only applied to the cascaded H-bridge (CHB) topology to create a new cascaded single-phase five-level inverter (CHB-1P-5LI) but also reduces the current ripple of the inductor by using two high-frequency carriers vcar1 and vcar2, where vcar2 is generated by shifting vcar1 through 90°. This paper presents circuit analysis, the operating principles, and simulation results of the CHB-5L-qSBI. A laboratory prototype was constructed based on a DSP TMS320F28335 to validate the operating principle of the CHB-5L-qSBI.
